iN VIDEO: Shuswap cake master dazzles local store with Christmas creations

Jay-ar Quiambao is getting well known in the small Shuswap community of Blind Bay for the stunning cakes he designs and displays at the bakery section of Village Grocer.

iNFOnews.ca recently interviewed the cake specialist after he created lifelike cakes in celebration of Thanksgiving and Halloween, and his Christmas display is no less impressive.

“It was very enjoyable making these cakes because it gave me the opportunity to conceptualize and to think how to make people happy through my creations,” he told iNFOnews.ca in a message.

The Christmas cake display took the Filippino baker five days to prepare. He made mini cake Santas, penguins, snowmen and reindeer with flavours of lemon, blueberry, raspberry and strawberry.

“They are my favourites because I handcrafted them individually and put a lot of details in every single one of them,” he said. “The most difficult one is the Christmas ball because I needed to make it into a dome shape, dip it in chocolate and then airbrush it before adding details.”

Ashley Jager is the liquor manager at Village Grocer and recently captured footage of Quiambao’s Christmas cake display.

“Jay-ar is absolutely amazing and honestly, the kindest human,” she said. “He recently won an award here for going above and beyond for our customers and his coworkers. I’m so excited he is being recognized for his work.”
