Children with big hearts found charity to help homeless in Kelowna

KELOWNA – The Doty sisters say the inspiration for founding the B.C. Halo Project came from the love of making blanket forts at their grandma and papa’s house.

Hanna and Lauren Doty, who are in grade four and grade one respectively, have created the non-profit foundation as part of their effort to collect used and new blankets which will be donated to homeless shelters in Kelowna, according to their website.

“Our mission is to payback and pay it forward for all the blessing in our lives,” the sisters state. “Giving a blanket to keep the less fortunate warm who do not have a warm bed to sleep in is a small token.”

Hanna and Lauren are inviting the community to join them at the City Furniture store on Bering Road in West Kelowna on Saturday, June 20 to build a huge fort out of the donated blankets.

Ten local businesses have agreed to be drop off depots and collect the donated blankets:
