Driver in hospital after truck flips, lands on roof in Vernon
VERNON – A man is considered lucky to be alive after his truck crashed and rolled on a busy Vernon thoroughfare.
Emergency crews responded to the single vehicle crash around 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, at the intersection of 58 Avenue and 27 Street. Deputy fire chief Jack Blair says the overturned vehicle was found in the ditch on 27 Street, close to where the road changes to one lane and merges onto Highway 97. The driver was the only person in the car.
“Fortunately, the individual from what I understand, he was injured… and transported to Vernon Jubilee Hospital, but I think he was pretty lucky,” Blair says, adding the extent of the man’s injuries is not known.
The truck landed on its roof and came to a stop in the ditch off 27 Street. What caused the driver to veer off the road remains undetermined.
Members of Vernon Fire and Rescue Services helped get the injured driver out of the flipped truck, but did not need to use the jaws of life, Blair says.
