TRU WolfPack women’s volleyball drops four-setter to Cougars at Edmonton tourney

EDMONTON – The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack have fallen to .500 at the Pandas/Griffins exhibition women’s volleyball tournament.

After downing Saskatchewan on Thursday night, Sept. 17, Chad Grimm’s WolfPack were 3-1 losers to the Mount Royal University Cougars of Calgary, Alberta on Friday, Sept. 18.

The scores were 25-20,19-25,25-22,25-22. TRU is now 1 and 1 on the exhibition campaign.

Grimm praised the play of Kendra Finch (first year, outside hitter, North Vancouver, BC). The Argyle Secondary grad led the way with nine kills. 

“She was our strongest player tonight which was a pleasant surprise, “ the coach stated.

“Katie Woo (4th year, setter, Surrey, BC)  set the first two sets for us and did a good job of distributing the ball,” Grimm continued. “We put in Tori (Taneda, third year, setter, Kelowna, BC) to get some experience and it was a close game.”

Kaitlin Lomas (third year, middle, Ponoka, AB) led the way in blocks for TRU with four.

The WolfPack close out the tournament with a game Saturday, Sept. 19 against the McMaster Marauders of the OUA.

TRU opens its 2015-16 Canada West regular season on October 16 th in Edmonton against the Alberta Pandas.

Their first home match is set for Friday, Oct. 23 at the Tournament Capital Centre when the MacEwan University Griffins come to Kamloops.
