Police await coroner on investigation into sudden death at downtown hotel

RCMP are awaiting word from the coroner's office before a man found dead at the Crossroads Inn yesterday can be positively identified.

"We still haven't done the positive identification," said Kamloops RCMP Staff Sgt. Grant Learned.

Police were called around 1:30 p.m. to 569 Seymour St. A 'decomposing' body was found inside one of the rooms. The body may have been there for days, as the last person to see him was a hotel employee two days before.

"Right away that says that the death had not been recent or immediate," Learned said.

The B.C. Coroners Service was notified and attended the scene. An examination of the room did not reveal sign of violence or assault. No foul play is expected.

Investigators from the Major Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Specialists were initially called to the scene and are assisting the Coroner. 

No names are being released.
