NEW YORK, N.Y. – New Jersey will have the world premiere of a musical based on the 1998 movie “Ever After.”
Paper Mill Playhouse said Friday that performances of the new twist on the Cinderella story will begin May 21. It will be directed and choreographed by three-time Tony Award-winner Kathleen Marshall and will star Christine Ebersole, Tony Sheldon and Margo Seibert.
The film starred Drew Barrymore as a feisty, literate and strong-minded orphan whose spirit survived the rigours of servitude to her wicked stepmother. The musical has a story and lyrics by Marcy Heisler and music by Zina Goldrich.
Ebersole won Tonys for “42nd Street” and “Grey Gardens”; Seibert played Adrian in the musical “Rocky”; and Sheldon was in “Priscilla Queen of the Desert.” The cast also includes Charles Shaughnessy of “The Nanny.”
