You’ll never guess what this Kamloops woman wants for her 100th birthday

THOMPSON-OKANAGAN – The family of a Kamloops grandmother turning 100 years old in a few months is using social media to get the attention of her favourite singer.

Kelowna resident Brad Krauza’s grandmother Sylvia lives in Kamloops. With her 100^th birthday coming up in March, he and his sister Wendy wanted to do something extra special.

“She’s really looking forward to getting a letter from the Queen of England,” Krauza says. “She’s also a Josh Groban fan and we’re thinking, what can we do with that?”

Brad and his sister drew up a sign and on Christmas day convinced her to let them take a picture of her holding it, without looking at what was written.

“We want it to be a surprise,” Krauza says. 

The sign reads: Merry Christmas 2015. My name is Sylvia I will be 100 years young March 2016. I am a big fan of Josh Groban. I would love to meet him. He is on my bucket list. Please ‘like’ and share until this post reaches him.

By the next morning the picture and message were shared 600 times. And it didn't take long for it to reach Josh Groban.

“This is so wonderful!!! Bless Sylvia's sweet heart. Hope to meet her soon,” he tweeted on Dec. 26.

Brad and Wendy haven’t told Sylvia they heard from her favourite crooner, and she still has no idea that her picture is being shared thousands of times across North America.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Krauza estimates the post has been shared more than 5,000 times. Krauza says he isn’t surprised her plea has captured the attention of so many people.

“I think the reason it’s so well received is we all have hopes to be in that position,” he says. “It’s an accomplishment.”

Krauza says he doesn’t know exactly what to expect from either Groban or his grandmother, who gave up her drivers licence only a few years ago.

“I don’t even know if she could fly to a show,” he says. “Maybe we could arrange some kind of a Skype thing. That would make her day.”
