Court upholds murder conviction for man who left pregnant wife’s body on beach
VANCOUVER – A man who killed his pregnant wife and left her burned body on a Metro Vancouver beach has lost the appeal of his guilty verdict.
B.C.’s Court of Appeal has upheld a second-degree murder conviction for Mukhtiar Panghali (MOOK’-tar PAN’-galley) of Surrey, B.C.
The court says the trial judge made no errors in the original sentence, which was handed down in March 2011.
Manjit Panghali was a 31-year-old elementary school teacher who was five months pregnant when her body was discovered turned up on a beach in Delta, B.C.
Her husband was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 15 years.
The victim’s sister, Jasmine Bhambra, says the decision is a huge relief for the family and it will help them to move on with their lives. (News1130)
