Former Quebec Liberal v-p Jean David keen to join race to succeed Charest

MONTREAL – A former vice-president of the Quebec Liberals is keen on joining the race to succeed Jean Charest as party leader.

Jean David expressed his interest at a news conference in Montreal.

David said he is waiting to find out the exact rules of the race this weekend before making a final decision.

The three declared candidates are all former cabinet ministers — Raymond Bachand, Philippe Couillard and Pierre Moreau.

David joined the Liberals more than 40 years ago but stormed out of the party in 2002 when he was criticical of Charest’s performance as Opposition leader.
