Aboriginal celebration brings art, music and food to downtown Kelowna
Teepees pitched in downtown Kelowna yesterday stood taller than some city buildings.
Celebrations for National Aboriginal Day continued well into the night on the corner of Ellis Street and and Lawrence Avenue.The event showcases aboriginal culture for the local community. Similar events across Canada celebrate the heritage and traditions of Metis, Inuit and First Nations.
Vernon-based artist David Llyod Wilson reinterprets pictographs found in the Okanagan region and had a large collection of his animal-themed prints on display. Also from out of town, members of the Iron Mountain and Little Hawk drumming groups sat down to sing together yesterday evening.
Public in attendance were also served a free dinner of Buffalo burgers, hot dogs, fruit, vegetables and traditional Bannock dish.
