Organizers will likely rename wrestling tournament named for disgraced ex-speaker Hastert

YORKVILLE, Ill. – Organizers of the Dennis Hastert Yorkville Invitational say they will likely rename the wrestling tournament.

Yorkville Wrestling Club executive board president Chad Stevens tells The (Aurora) Beacon-News (http://trib.in/1JofN2E ) the tournament will still take place “but it won’t be named the Dennis Hastert anymore.”

The decision comes after the former U.S. House speaker from suburban Chicago was indicted last week on accusations he agreed to pay $3.5 million to ensure someone from the town where he taught and coached high school wrestling stayed quiet about his “prior misconduct.”

The invitational includes many local wrestling clubs and is the largest fundraiser for the Yorkville Wrestling Club. It typically takes place in the winter. It’s one of the most popular wrestling club tournaments in Illinois.
