Lucky movie-goers must win tickets to attend North Okanagan film premiere

ENDERBY – It’s considered to be the first movie premiere at a drive-in theatre in recent memory.

Blackway, starring Sir Anthony Hopkins, Julia Stiles, Ray Liotta and Alexander Ludwig, hits the biggest screen in the region on June 2; the Starlight Drive-In.

“Nobody can think of another film that’s done it before, so I think it’s been years since it’s happened,” Enderby Entertainment producer Rick Dugdale says of the venue.

To attend the private event, you’ll need to keep an eye on the company’s Facebook page — you can’t buy your way in.

“They’re all ticket giveaways. There will be multiple ways to win tickets throughout the valley,” Dugdale says. “The first giveaways will be via our Facebook page once we announce how to win them.”

The announcements are expected to start rolling out in the next few days and it’s possible some of the cast will be attending the premiere.

The Starlight is one of three drive-ins in B.C., and is run by a trio of longtime friends who resurrected it from a patch of weeds 15 years ago.

After the movie premiere, Blackway will start showing at the Vernon Towne Cinema on June 10. It’s expected to run at independent theatres in Penticton, Salmon Arm, Kamloops and throughout B.C. as well.

“We’re more supportive of the independent theatres, those are the types of place we want to be playing in,” Dugdale says.

Blackway was screened at the Venice, Austin, San Diego and Stockholm Film Festivals.
