The Latest: 2 Boise officers shot, suspect dead

BOISE, Idaho – The Latest on a police shooting in Boise, Idaho (all times local):

5:45 p.m.

Boise Police say a suspect is dead and two officers are being treated at a local hospital after a police shooting Friday afternoon.

The names of the officers have not yet been released. But police believe the suspect who was shot in the incident was 33-year-old Marco Romero, who was wanted in connection with a Tuesday shooting in Meridian that injured two people. A police dog, a K-9 officer named Jardo, was also injured in the shooting and is being treated at a nearby emergency vet centre.

Officers were doing a yard-to-yard search looking for Romero when the gunfire broke out.

Resident Jeff Sele told the Idaho Statesman (http://bit.ly/2g3PhFh) that he was talking with someone else on the street when he heard what sounded like 10 or 12 gun and shotgun blasts.

Jake Chappele told the Boise newspaper he was just getting home from school with his three kids, ushering them inside when the gunfire broke out.

One of the injured officers was being treated in the emergency room Friday evening; the other was in surgery.

An Idaho hospital says three adults involved in a police shooting in a Boise neighbourhood are being treated at a hospital.

A spokesman for the hospital would not release the conditions of the three but said more information was expected to be released later Friday.

Authorities say two police officers and one suspect were shot during a search for a fugitive in Boise.

The Idaho Statesman reports (https://goo.gl/vkUSmK ) at about 3:25 p.m. Friday, people reported that shots were fired in an alley.

Boise Police say both wounded officers were taken to a local hospital and that a suspect was also being treated, but it was unclear where that was happening.

It’s unclear how many shots were fired and who fired them.
