Mother of missing Michael Dunahee says anniversaries no easier after two decades

VICTORIA – It’s been nearly 22 years since four-year-old Michael Dunahee vanished within moments from a Victoria school yard, and his mother says she still struggles to deal with the anniversaries.

Crystal Dunahee says the days after the March 24, 1991, disappearance were really difficult, but every event that followed has not been any easier.

Her comments come as a new book, written by Valerie Green, is launched tonight at a fundraiser for Child Find B.C.

Dunahee says the book’s cover shows a picture of Michael taken just before he disappeared, and also includes an inset with a composite sketch of what he would look like today.

The sketch is a reminder that the search is now focused on a young man in his mid-20s, and Dunahee hopes someone will recognize him — or he might recognize himself.

Despite thousands of tips, a $100,000 reward, and potential strong leads as recently as 2009, no trace of Michael has ever been found. (CFAX)
