Federal deficit close to $9 billion for first six months of the year

OTTAWA – The federal deficit expanded by $2.7 billion in September, the same number as a year ago, to bring the total shortfall for the first six months of the fiscal year to $8.9 billion. That is still ahead of the pace of last year’s fist six months total of a $11.8 billion.
