Blooming judges arrive by boat

KAMLOOPS – It’s one of the best turnouts he’s ever seen.

That according to Kamloops mayor Peter Milobar who was on hand to great the two judges who will be checking out Kamloops’ flowers and gardens for the International Communities in Bloom competition.

Dozens of volunteers from a number of local groups were there to give the judges from Belgium and England a warm welcome. Bob Ivison is from England, while Alain Capelle hails from Belgium.

The arrived by boat on the Thompson River, jumping out at Pioneer Park.

The judges, who were at Tranquille Farm Sunday morning, will get a tour of the city on Monday before leaving Tuesday morning.

Kamloops is going for the title of Best Large Community. The city is up against communities in South Korea, England and Ontario. The awards ceremony will take place in Ottawa in October.

The judges will be heading to Castlegar after leaving Kamloops and then will head to Trail to judge those cities in the international medium class. Sun Rivers will be judged in the 1,001-2,000 population category of the national competition on July 22.
