World class music and ski festival planned for Sun Peaks

KAMLOOPS – A festival based in Austria is going to have a North American edition in Sun Peaks.

Sun Peaks will play host to Snowbombing in April 2017. This will be the first year for a North American edition of the festival, which is held annually in Mayrhofen, Austria, according to a press release.

The festival is a combination ski weekend and electronic music festival. Festival attendees in Austria this year saw acts like the Prodigy and Bastille, along with well known British and European performers. In the past it’s hosted Fatboy Slim, Skrillex and Snoop Dogg.

Aside from the music, ski and snowboard competitions are also part of the five day event, scheduled for April 6 to April 10, 2017.

The festival organizers are looking forward to having a North American version of the event, spokesperson Gareth Cooper says.

“Not only is this one of the best ski locations in Canada, but strangely it looks just like our Austrian home Mayrhofen,” he says. “We cannot wait to come and share our unique style of après ski and passion for music.”

The first tickets will be available in mid-August, while the line up will be released in the fall.
