Foul play now suspected in death of man on Salt Spring Island, B.C.

SALT SPRING ISLAND, B.C. – Mounties say the discovery of a body on Salt Spring Island, B.C., is now a murder investigation.

The body of 45-year-old Joseph Bernie was found on Oct. 10 in Fulford Creek.

Investigations by police and the coroners’ service have determined foul play was involved in the man’s death.

RCMP Sgt. George Jenkins says police are conscious of the impact the death has had on the man’s family and the broader Salt Spring community.

He says crime investigators are working towards identifying anyone involved in the death.

Police say they have found no evidence to suggest that public safety is at risk.
