Kamloops cab driver who was allegedly stabbed by a fare now out of hospital

SUSPECT CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED ASSAULT

KAMLOOPS – A cab driver who was allegedly stabbed by his fare in Kamloops last week is now out of hospital according to his boss.

Cal Huntington, a taxi driver for Kami Cabs, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries on Wednesday, Aug. 24.

General manager of Kami Cabs, Satinder Mann, says Huntington is now recovering at home, but it will likely still take a while for him to get back to work.

The community is teaming up with Kami Cabs to make Huntington's recovery as smooth as possible.

Mann says $4,000 has been raised so far to help pay for Huntington's recovery efforts. The last chance to donate is this evening, before Huntington is presented with a cheque tomorrow morning, Sept. 1.

Although Huntington isn't feeling 100 per cent yet, Mann says he's been positive through the whole situation.

"He was actually here yesterday at the office just to say hi to everybody," Mann says.

Mann says Huntington will probably not be able to come back to work for about another month.

"Even then, it will be a gradual thing," Mann says.

Austin Eyres, 19, has been identified as the suspect who allegedly stabbed Huntington. He has been charged with aggravated assault.

Mann says the public can make donations up until tonight, Aug. 31, to their office at 209 Leigh Road, across from Integra Tire.
