UPDATE: Police cruiser involved in crash on Seymour Street

KAMLOOPS – A Kamloops RCMP cruiser has been involved in a collision with a minivan in downtown Kamloops this afternoon.

Cpl. Cheryl Bush says the crash happened around 3:20 p.m., Sept. 30. The police cruiser, driven by a lone male officer, collided with a Dodge Grand Caravan in the intersection of Seymour Street and 6 Avenue with a family inside, two adults and five children.

Bush says a child and a woman from the minivan were taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries. The RCMP officer was injured, but Bush wasn't sure if he needed medical attention.

It appears the police cruiser hit the rear passenger door of the van deploying the curtain airbags.

Victims services transported the uninjured family members to the hospital, Bush says.

Seymour Street is closed from 5 Avenue to 7 Avenue, and 6 Avenue is closed between Victoria Street and St. Paul Street.

No word yet what caused the collision as the RCMP invesgtigation continues.
