Saskatchewan NDP worry about number of people collecting employment insurance
SASKATOON – The NDP Opposition says rising unemployment in Saskatchewan should be a wake-up call to the government.
According to Statistics Canada, the number of people in the province receiving employment insurance jumped 35 per cent from November of 2014 to 2015.
NDP deputy leader Trent Wotherspoon says the economy faces significant challenges.
He says the government should not have scrapped regional economic development authorities.
Wotherspoon says the province should make it easier for technology, research and cultural industries to grow.
He also suggests the government should bolster job training and retraining programs. CJWW
