Marion Rolland of France wins women’s downhill world title; beats Fanchini, Hoefl-Riesch

SCHLADMING, Austria – Marion Rolland of France has provisionally won the women’s downhill title at the Alpine skiing world championships.

Rolland timed 1 minute, 50.00 seconds on the 3.05-kilometre Streicher course to lead Nadia Fanchini of Italy by 0.16.

Maria Hoefl-Riesch of Germany, who won the super-combined title Friday, came 0.70 back in third.

Rolland, who is yet to win a World Cup race, earns her first medal at a major championship. In the 2010 Vancouver Olympics downhill, she fell four seconds into her run.

Results were provisional as some lower-ranked racers were still to start.
