Another delay in sentencing for man who kidnapped boy, 3, in B.C. in 2011

CRANBROOK, B.C. – There’s another delay in the case of a man convicted of kidnapping a three-year-old boy in southeast B.C. in 2011.

Randall Hopley was supposed to have a date set for a dangerous offender hearing after a psychiatric assessment was completed, but the defence has now asked for its own assessment, so the case has been put over until June 17.

Hopley abducted Kienan Hebert from his home in Sparwood in September, 2011, only to return him four days later.

He had taken the boy to a cabin at a nearby bible camp, where Hopley was later arrested.

He insisted he never harmed or sexually assaulted the boy, but the Crown said Hopley has a criminal history, including a sexual assault on a five-year-old boy in 1985 and an attempted abduction in 2007.

Hopley has been in jail since his arrest and is being held in protective custody.
