TV sitcoms ‘Mr. D,’ ‘Seed’ lead Canadian comedy award nominations

TORONTO – The TV sitcoms “Seed” and “Mr. D” and the comedy films “Please Kill Mr. Know It All” and “My Awkward Sexual Adventure” are the leading nominees at the Canadian Comedy Awards.

City’s “Seed” scored five nominations including best TV show, best actress for Carrie-Lynn Neales and three for best writing.

CBC-TV’s “Mr. D” netted four nods including best TV show, and acting nominations for Naomi Snieckus and Mark Little and an ensemble nomination for the overall cast.

On the film side, “Please Kill Mr. Know It All” and “My Awkward Sexual Adventure” each scored six nominations, including best film, best director, best writing, best actor and two each for best actress. “Dead Before Dawn 3D” scored five nominations, one each in the same five categories.

The prize for Canadian Comedy Person of the Year is competition between “Mr. D” star Gerry Dee and Colin Mochrie, Lauren Ash, Steve Patterson and Sugar Sammy.

The Canadian Comedy Awards take place Oct. 6 in Ottawa and cap the Canadian Comedy Awards Festival, running Oct. 3 to Oct. 6.

Best film nominees are “Dead Before Dawn 3D,” “Goon,” “My Awkward Sexual Adventure,” “Please Kill Mr Know it All” and “Unlucky.”

The race for best TV show is between “Crown the Town with Ryan Long,” “Mr. D,” “Seed,” “The Ron James Show” and “This Hour Has 22 Minutes.”
