Mulcair says sorry after failing to stop at Parliament Hill security checkpoint

OTTAWA – NDP Leader Tom Mulcair has apologized to the RCMP after failing to stop at a security checkpoint on Parliament Hill.

A statement released by the party says Mulcair drove through the open security gate today as he does every morning, and waved at the officer on duty.

The officer, however, didn’t recognize the leader of the official Opposition, resulting in what the party describes — repeatedly — as a “misunderstanding.”

After what the NDP calls a “respectful discussion” with an officer, Mulcair apologized.

The statement says no warnings or citations were issued and that the matter was settled “immediately and cordially.”
