Jones to lead British and Irish Lions in deciding test v Australia; O’Driscoll not in squad

NOOSA HEADS, Australia – Alun-Wyn Jones will lead the British and Irish Lions in Saturday’s series-deciding third test match against Australia after veteran Irish centre Brian O’Driscoll was left out of the squad.

The Welsh lock will fill in for tour captain Sam Warburton, who was ruled out after tearing his left hamstring in the 16-15 loss to Australia last weekend.

O’Driscoll, who is making his fourth Lions tour, started at outside centre in the first two tests and had been widely tipped to take over as captain after Warburton was injured.

Lions coach Warren Gatland said the selection meeting was “lively” and “we think we picked the best team to win on Saturday.”
