Former Toronto FC captain Darren O’Dea signs with Ukraine’s Metallurg Donetsk

TORONTO – Former Toronto FC captain Darren O’Dea has signed with Ukraine’s Metallurg Donetsk.

Toronto FC, which had said O’Dea’s deal to leave for Ukraine was pending a medical, had no immediate comment.

But O’Dea’s agent confirms that the Irish international defender has signed a three-year deal with the Ukraine club.

O’Dea left Toronto FC prior to Saturday’s game in Kansas City. The MLS team has said it is unwilling to renew his salary, listed at US$456,250.

Metallurg is a local rival of the better-known FC Shakhtar Donetsk club.
