Coeur d’Alene Tribe to build youth recreation centre

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – The Coeur d’Alene Tribe has approved plans for a nearly $16 million youth and family recreation centre in northern Idaho.

The centre will be built on land near Worley owned by the tribe and its health care organization, Marimm Health. Groundbreaking on the $15.8 million centre is expected to begin next year.

The current plans include a family water park with a waterslide, splash pad, lazy river and lap lanes as well as fitness equipment and space for child care and adult and youth recreation programs.

Tribe Chairman Ernie Stensgar says the community’s most pressing need is to preserve and protect the health and safety of their youth, and the centre will give families on the reservation a safe place to gather, learn and have fun.
