Bruins extend general manager Peter Chiarelli through 2017-18 season

BOSTON – The Boston Bruins have signed general manager Peter Chiarelli to a four-year contract extension through the 2017-18 season.

With Chiarelli in charge, the Bruins won the Stanley Cup in 2011 and went to the final last season. They’ve made the playoffs in six of the seven years he has been GM, going 50-35 in the post-season.

The Bruins have had a regular-season winning percentage of .596 under Chiarelli, who will continue to serve as the team’s alternate governor.

Chiarelli, who was assistant general manager of the Ottawa Senators before being hired by the Bruins in 2006, is part of Team Canada’s management group for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.
