HAMILTON – The Trinity Western Spartans are one win away from their third straight U Sports men’s volleyball title.
Trinity Western downed the host McMaster Mauraders 3-1 on Saturday in the tournament semfinals to advance to the championship, where they will face the UBC Thunderbirds.
McMaster took the first set 25-18, but the Spartans responded by winning the next three 25-23, 25-15, 26-24.
Trinity Western’s Eric Loeppky led all players with 26.5 points, including 23 kills.
The Thunderbirds earned their way into Sunday’s final with a 3-1 win over the Alberta Golden Bears in the other semi.
Keith West and Irvan Brar each had 13 points as UBC took the match 25-17, 25-18, 22-25, 25-20.
The Thunderbirds last won a men’s volleyball title in 1983.
