Lloydminster public schools in lockdown as RCMP look for missing sex offender

LLOYDMINSTER, Alta. – Public schools in Lloydminster on the Alberta-Saskatchewan boundary are in lockdown because a potentially violent high-risk sex offender is on the loose.

Michael Diachuk, director of education with the Lloydminster Public School Division, says doors are locked and students are being kept inside following a warning from the RCMP.

Mounties said Tuesday that an Edmonton man’s electronic monitoring bracelet was found on the roof of a business in Lloydminster — it had been cut off.

Michael Sean Stanley has a long history of sex offences, including taking children from playgrounds.

Diachuk says high school students who want to go outside are being asked to get into a buddy system so they’re not alone.

He says the precautionary measures will continue until the danger has passed.
