Montreal police investigating suspicious package found at Trudeau airport

MONTREAL – Montreal police have blocked off a residential area near Trudeau airport after the discovery of what authorities describe as a suspicious package at the airport’s terminal early Sunday morning.

The authority that runs Montreal’s airports says the suitcase was spotted at a security checkpoint in the U.S. departures area at Trudeau.

Police were called in and spokesman Jean-Pierre Brabant says the suitcase was taken away to be analyzed.

Several local media outlets reported that the U.S. screening area was closed and a number of American bound flights were delayed.

An airport spokeswoman says flight operations have resumed.

Police converged on the Montreal borough of LaSalle Sunday evening and blocked off a section of the neighbourhood.

At least a dozen emergency vehicles are on the scene and police say they are investigating a home in the area.

Brabant says about 20 people were ordered from their homes in the neighbourhood as a precaution.

Police won’t say if there has been arrest.
