Sabres trade Vanek to Islanders for Moulson, first- and second-round picks

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Buffalo Sabres have traded Thomas Vanek to the New York Islanders for Matt Moulson and two draft picks.

Vanek and Moulson are set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. The Islanders sent a 2014 first-round pick and a 2015 second-round pick to the Sabres in the deal.

Vanek, 29, has four goals and five assists in 13 games. He has a cap hit of US$7,142,857 for the rest of the season.

Moulson, 29, has six goals and three assists in 11 games. He has a cap hit of US$3.133 million.
