5 Pakistani Shiites killed in 2 bombings in southwest town

QUETTA, Pakistan – A Pakistani security official says two bombings hours apart targeted vehicles carrying minority Shiite tourists in the southwestern town of Ziarat, killing five people and wounding several others.

Noor Ahmed, a local police officer, says three Shiite Muslims from Karachi were killed when a bomb planted in their car went off Friday in Ziarat, located in a picturesque valley in Baluchistan province.

He says another bomb planted in the second vehicle killed two Shiites from Quetta when they reached Ziarat.

Both groups of victims were in Ziarat to celebrate the Muslim holiday Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan.

No group claimed responsibility but outlawed Sunni extremist groups have claimed similar attacks in the past.
