Patrick Brown arrives at Ontario Tory HQ ahead of leadership deadline
TORONTO – Former Progressive Conservative leader Patrick Brown is at the party's Toronto headquarters with roughly an hour left to enter race for the party's top post, stirring speculation that the Barrie, Ont. politician will try to reclaim his old job.
Brown resigned last month amid sexual misconduct allegations that he has consistently denied, forcing the party to launch a contest to select his successor.
Brown's appearance at party headquarters comes hours after he was removed from party caucus.
The legislator, who will now sit as an independent, is mounting a campaign to clear his name on allegations he says are categorically false.
Brown has defended himself on social media and in interviews in recent days, alleging the two women who spoke out against him were lying and possibly manipulated by his political enemies.
He has also vowed to sue CTV News, which published the allegations. CTV has said it stands by its reporting.
