Alberta government extends flood aid deadline for small, medium businesses
EDMONTON – The Alberta government is extending the deadline for small and medium-sized businesses affected by the June floods to apply for aid.
The aid includes loan and interest rebate programs to help Alberta’s flood affected small businesses, agricultural producers and not-for-profit organizations to get back on their feet.
The original deadline to apply under the Alberta flood recovery program was Dec. 31 — it now is June 30, 2014.
Treasury Board president Doug Horner says the deadline was changed because they heard concerns from small and medium-sized businesses that they need more time to assess their needs following the disaster.
Approximately 1,500 small businesses were directly affected when flooding in June overwhelmed some parts of Calgary and southern Alberta.
Last week, the Alberta government extended the deadline for homeowners living in flood fringe zones to obtain municipal permits for mitigation work to March 31.
