Josh Elliott says he made ‘deeply personal’ decision to move to sports

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Josh Elliott says his decision to leave ABC’s “Good Morning America” for NBC is a “deeply personal” move to get back to sports.

NBC Sports on Wednesday officially introduced him as a new hire to work on future Olympics, NFL football and other events. He turned down an offer to remain at ABC’s top-rated morning show, where he was a key player in its rise past the “Today” show.

Elliott said he’s discussed no role at NBC News, including at “Today.”

He said the fallout from his defection from ABC has been painful.
