Canada to play Colombia in Davis Cup World Group playoff

LONDON – The Canadian Davis Cup tennis team will play Colombia in a home tie later this year.

The winner of the Sept. 12-14 tie will receive a spot in the 2015 World Group.

Canada had its best Davis Cup season ever in 2013, making it to the semifinals.

But the Canadians lost their first-round World Group match to Japan this season and was relegated to the playoff against Colombia.

The venue and surface for the best-of-five series will be announced at a later date.

Canada is ranked eighth in the world while Colombia is ranked 26th.
