Where they live: Okanagan Landing popular neighbourhood for Vernon council candidates

VERNON – Voters have a lot of choice in the Vernon municipal election with four people running for mayor and 20 councillor candidates.

There are lots of reasons to choose a particular candidate and one of those reasons may be where they live in the city, so as part of our election coverage iNFOnews.ca asked all the candidates which neighbourhood they call home.

Residing in Vernon is not a necessity to run for city council. Two of the candidates live in neighbouring Coldstream.

Chief election officer Susan Blakely says non-residents need to own property Vernon and are required to get the signed endorsement of 10 eligible voters to run.

"In fact we've had previous mayors, council members who live elsewhere but perhaps work in Vernon or own corporate property in Vernon," Blakely says. "So they definitely have an interest in the community."

It's interesting to note 9 out of the 24 candidates for council live in Okanagan Landing.

While some candidates have lived in Vernon for many years, and have had homes in different neighbourhoods, this list shows where they currently live:
