CTV acquires exclusive Canadian rights to interactive talent show ‘Rising Star’

TORONTO – Canadians will be able to vote alongside U.S. viewers when the singing competition “Rising Star” debuts this summer on CTV and ABC.

CTV has acquired exclusive Canadian broadcast rights to the show, which has become a hit in Israel.

From Keshet International and the executive producers of “American Idol and “The Voice,” “Rising Star” will tally votes in real time through a free app available in Canada and the U.S.

The show sees aspiring singers, ranging from solo acts to groups, perform behind a giant wall of television screens displaying the faces of viewers at home. Competitors can see how they’re doing in real-time — as viewers, judges and the studio audience vote, a live results meter reveals whether they’re a hit or a miss.

When the votes reach a certain level, the screen in front of them slowly rises to reveal the performers.

“Rising Star” is set to premiere June 22 on CTV.
