1 police officer dead, 1 injured in Puerto Rico car accident

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Authorities in Puerto Rico say a police patrol car ran off a bridge in the U.S. territory, killing one officer and injuring another.

Police said the accident occurred early Friday near the island’s main international airport. Authorities said the officers were assigned to patrol the streets all night to provide protection during a blackout in the U.S. territory.

The hospitalized officer is in serious condition.

It is unclear what caused the accident.
