Police say two people dead after small plane crashes in B.C.’s Okanagan
VERNON, B.C. – Police say two people are dead after a small plane crashed onto a sports field in the Okanagan city of Vernon, B.C.
RCMP spokesman Greg Molendyk says he was near the site of the crash when it happened in the early afternoon.
He says he heard an explosion, looked over and saw the aircraft had burst into flames.
Molendyk says there were flames all along the ground right up to the aircraft.
Capt. Greg Clarke of the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Victoria says an emergency beacon went off around 1 p.m. and police were responding to reports of a crash near the city’s airport.
Clarke identified the aircraft as a twin-engine Piper 23.
