Woman run over trying to stop New Year’s Eve drunk driver in South Okanagan

SUMMERLAND – RCMP say a Summerland woman was driven over by man she was trying to stop from driving while impaired at a New Year’s Eve party.

Emergency crews were called to a home on Giants Head Road in Summerland at around 2 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, after the woman was run over by a vehicle in her driveway, according to an RCMP media release.

Police say the woman was hit by the vehicle when she tried to stop the allegedly intoxicated man from driving away from the New Year’s Eve party at her home. She suffered minor injuries.

Police do not say if the driver remained at the scene.

RCMP are considering charging a 34-year-old man with dangerous driving.
