iN NUMBERS: Online fundraisers for victims of the Bald Range wildfire

Devastating wildfires have left a dark cloud over the Okanagan, both literally and figuratively.

It’s easy to focus on the hardship, the sadness and feeling of powerless, but the community has banded together and hundreds of people’s donations to online fundraisers should give you a bit of hope.

Here are the numbers from some GoFundMe pages for wildfire victims:

  • 40: GoFundMe pages have been started for Summerland fire victims in the past week.
  • 103: GoFundMe pages have been started for people suffering due to wildfires in B.C. in the last 30 days.
  • 29,095: Dollars have been raised for one family in Faulder who lost their home in the fire.
  • 14: Alpacas were let loose in Garnet Valley because their owners couldn’t evacuate with them. They all survived.
  • 12,024: Dollars have been raised to help 14 alpacas and their owners.
  • 1,000: Dollars. That’s how much one person donated to a family in Summerland.
  • 111: Donations have been made to one fundraiser for Summerland and Faulder.
  • 91: That’s the age of one Bradley Creek fire victim who lost his home in the blaze.
  • 28: Years. That’s how long a woman lived in her home before it burned down in Faulder.
