Canadiens sign defenceman Andrei Markov to three-year, $17.25 million deal
MONTREAL – The Montreal Canadiens have signed defenceman Andrei Markov to a US$17.25-million, three-year deal.
Markov will count $5.75 million against the salary cap, just as he did in his two previous contracts.
The 35-year-old Russian played 81 regular-season games in 2013-14 after bouncing back from a nagging knee to participate in all 48 games during the previous lockout year.
Markov had seven goals and 36 assists this past season and a goal and nine assists in 17 playoff games.
He has 442 points (98 goals, 344 assists) in 765 career regular-season games, all with the Habs.
Re-signing Markov was just step one for the Habs on defence this off-season, as P.K. Subban is a restricted free agent.
