Man in hospital following single-vehicle accident down large embankment

One man is in hospital after losing control of his vehicle on a sharply curved road and travelling down an 80 to 100 foot embankment yesterday morning on Paul Lake Road.

Emergency personnel were called after the single-vehicle incident at about 9 a.m. Wednesday.

RCMP are saying the driver of a red truck heading eastbound near the junction Highway 5 North lost control entering a sharp curve while traveling about 60 kilometres per hour.

As the vehicle left the road, it sheared off a hydro pole, hit the embankment and continued on flat terrain for about another 100 feet before stopping on its side.

The man appeared to have crawled from the vehicle before emergency response crews arrived and carried him to the road via stretcher where he was immediately flown to Royal Inland Hospital in a Kamloops Air Ambulance helicopter.

RCMP are saying the man remains in serious but stable condition with injuries to his face, back and legs.

The highway was closed about two hours as BC Hydro arrived on scene to shut off the lines.
