Four lanes from Kamloops to Chase this year, says provincial government
B.C.'s transportation minister stopped in Kamloops this week to make good on a commitment for highway improvements.
Transportation Minister Mary Polak and Kamloops MLA Terry Lake assured attendees of the province's plans to expand Highway 1 between Kamloops and Chase to four lanes this year.
The visit comes after an announcement by Premier Christy Clark on Sept. 28, 2012 to invest $650 million into Highway 1 between Kamloops and Alberta over the next 10 years.
About 45 kilometres have been widened to four lanes with another 10 kilometres in the planning stage. There is 440 kilometres of highway between Kamloops and the Alberta border with 339 of them in provincial jurisdiction.
It will build on about $700 million that has been invested into this highway for improvements since 2001.
Public consultations in Kamloops regarding highway improvements take place at Hotel 540 on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m.
