Cougar roaming Mission Ridge Park
KELOWNA – People visiting Mission Ridge Park should keep their eyes peeled for a cougar.
A sighting was reported and signs were put up Friday afternoon after a conservation officer confirmed the tracks in the park were likely created by a cougar coming into the area from the Woodhaven Regional Park, which is closed to the public in winter.
A Safety Guide to Cougars published online by the Ministry of Environment advises that while human contact with cougars is rare and an attack unlikely, it pays to be prepared, especially when in a natural setting.
Cougar sightings can be reported to the B.C. Conservation Officer Service at 1-877-952-7277.
