Officers with West Kelowna RCMP’s new drug section seized illegal drugs with a street value of $500,000 in July.

West Kelowna RCMP formed the task force in April to target drug trafficking and organized crime, according to an RCMP media release issued today, Sept. 9..

In July, officers executed search warrants for in West Kelowna, Peachland and Kelowna and found 3 kilograms of fentanyl, 1 kg of cocaine, 400 grams of methamphetamine and some other controlled substances like GHB and opioids diverted from safe supply programs.

Police also found 16 guns, suppressors and hard body armour along with stolen property including mountains bikes, gold bars and a motorized surfboard worth around $16,600. Officers seized several vehicles and other assets related to the property searched.

RCMP did’t say if any arrests were made.

“These early results underscore the immediate impact a focused enforcement team can have on disrupting drug trafficking and associated criminal activity in our communities,” West Kelowna RCMP media relations officer Staff Sgt. Brendan Dolan said in the release.

“Removing these quantities of dangerous drugs and illegal weapons from circulation directly reduces the risk of overdose, violence and other harms. Our investigators will continue to pursue those who traffic poison into our neighbourhoods.”
