More snow on the way for the Coquihalla

DRIVERS SHOULD EXPECT DELAYS

KELOWNA – After a dump of up to 30 cm of snow overnight, another 30 cm are forecast to fall on the Coquihalla highway between Merritt and Hope Sunday.

Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement so drivers have a heads up about the heavy snowfall.

Another frontal system from the Pacific is to blame for the precipitation. The first one hit Saturday. Number 2 will move over the coastal mountains Sunday afternoon before moving into the Southern Interior overnight.

Along with the Coq, Highway 3 on both sides of the Okanagan will get the heavy snow, including the Allison Pass, the Kootenay Pass and the Paulson Summit.

The snow in the mountain passes will taper to a few flurries by Monday morning.

The Ministry of Transportation has warned there will be delays for snow removal and avalanche control.
